What did we love? Here are a few of our favorite books ...

Katherine's Pick
The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese

This novel weaves together two stories set in India throughout the 1900's. At first, the stories seemed so different and unrelated. I'm now halfway through the book and they are starting to gradually come together in interesting and unexpected ways!

Jessica's Pick
All the Sinners Bleed by S.A. Cosby

This book made NYT’s top 100 books, which was the motivation I needed to read it. It’s sooo good. I typically like cozy murder mystery books (i.e. Thursday Murder Club) and this is definitely NOT this type of book. Glad I went out of my comfort zone.

Jane's Pick
Hunting the Falcon: Henry VIII Anne Boleyn and the Marriage That Shook Europe by John Guy & Julia Fox

I am learning lots of details I never knew about Anne Boleyn’s family and her early years. Very interesting read. You have to like this time period, though... the book is over 700 pages long!

Johanna's Pick
The Righteous Mind by Jonathan Haidt

I have always been curious as to why people tend to view stances on politics, religion and other group affiliations as “ours” versus “theirs”. The Righteous Mind offers an insightful and balanced look at the psychology of morality and how people actually form opinions and make choices.

Vanessa's Pick
Illegally Yours: A Memoir by Rafael Agustin

This book is told through a humorous perspective on finding out you were never American, but an immigrant, because your parents never told you... I especially identify with the author being from Ecuador!

Reed's Pick
The Fifth Season by N. K. Jemisin

Make this your very next sci-fi / fantasy read!! A stunning story about magic & power of all kinds. The world Jemisin builds is gorgeous and terrifying. (Rick Riordan loved it, too!)
